About The Artist - Ruvini De Alwis

I am an artist, a textile designer, illustrator, face painter and photographer but also having my highest qualification in Environmental Science. I specialise in handmade crafts and am a huge supporter of all things handmade. In the following pages you can see a little of what I can do. I continue to learn new skills and ways of doing things and I consider my work to be very informal and in a temporary travelable state because I am more" nomadic" than not - often  not through choice but through circumstance. This has led me to live in a travelable state,  "ready to go". Some of my influences have been Indian poster art , Mexican mural work and {Native] Aboriginal art. My work is a fusion of many elements - contemporary, although I do like the traditional also (I am a Honiton lacemaker, a type of lacemaking that is specific to the Devon and Somerset region) and based in the UK.

Bloomlore has been spawned from my love of Ecology, travel, wild spaces and the desire for a more sustainable world than the one we currently have. It is a fusion and a culmination of different things I have done, not always in a formal work capacity or with a plan or strategy but something that has been hard won. I have had a process, a life process which I value and respect profoundly and can be better understood by reading my book, "The Unfathomable Silence" (https://bloomlore.com/arts/book). I like to think my work is a natural extension of my everyday life and reflects who I am now - its evolving, subject to change and hopefully real improvement rather than re-invention and has often been spontaneous.

There is an artistic element but there is also science and I know those two can sometimes be poles apart but there are many possibilities...Life is amazing and what you will find here is an exploration and fusion of where that road is leading....

Please keep a look out for what’s new. Will keep you posted.

Thank you for looking!
